LJ has gone holiday!

Got most of my shopping done, still have to buy for mom yet.

So yesterday I went to Chi-town (Chicago for all those not up on the lingo) with Japan Club. No, I am not in Japan Club, but they had invited members of HAPA to come along. I'd never been to Chinatown before and since that was one of the places they were going, I decided to go with them, as opposed to going w/ German Club on Thursday. (one only needs to go Chicago once in a week + I ain't paying again- Christmas season= Steph spends enough money already) So I got up at quarter to 8, dressed and all that jazz, withdrew some cash and hopped the bus. We left about 9, stopped for a bathroom break in Chesterton, and got to Chicago about 11:30 CST. Dropped off the SAC people in downtown and headed over to China town. We had lunch at restaurant, and each of us at my table were dumb and each ordered our own dishes- no one person could have finished a single dish by themselves. Yours truly at least ordered an appetizer of duck, it was ok, but not the greatest. I'd never had duck before, so thought I'd try it. The table had a spinning tray thing in the middle, so we all spun our dishes around to split between all of us. And we still had a lot of food we couldn't finish.
Walked around Chinatown in the shops for a while after lunch. I bought myself a bite size buddha (75 cents, can't really go wrong), which upon further inspection looks like it was made for a necklace. Needless to say, I'll just let him sit on a shelf.
About 20 minutes before we left, we spotted a trailer-truck full of live fish. They were delivering to the different markets in town. It was just odd to see- a truck full of fish.

After Chinatown, we headed up to Arlington Heights (slightly north of OHare) to the Mitsuwa Market, which sells Japanese stuff. Took an hour to get there (Karen- we drove by Berkeley just fyi :)). Most of the Mitsuwa Market is a grocery store, but they also had a food court, bookstore, travel agency, dishware shop, and a winery like thing (Sake, not wine). Everything in this place was written in Japanese- and mostly no English! I didn't know what I was looking at half the time, and certainly couldn't read any of the books. Eventually ran back into Yu, who was getting some cooking ingredients (spices and such) and asking me if I'd tried some the stuff, which mostly I'd never seen before in my life. Picked up some Pocky for the family (if you've never had Pocky, it's like a cookie stick dipped in chocolate and I highly recommend them)....and some other things for other people.
Had dinner there, I still can't remember what the dish was called, but it was basically the Japanese answer to chow mein. Was pretty good. And- I ate it all with chopsticks!

Around 5:15 we headed to downtown to shop, shop, shop. Unfortunately it took us an hour to get there (it shouldn't have), since I-90 is like the most congested highway in the world. Everyone had to be back on the bus just before 8 (7:45), so we really only had just over an hour to shop. I had wanted to get down to the Christkindlmarkt by Marshall Field's, but it was too far away from where we were, so I ended up just doing some shopping at Water Tower Place mall. They have a game store in this mall, with basically every board game you might want, and puzzles. They were selling a 18000 piece puzzle! That would take me forever if I ever tried to put something like that together. Bought some undergarments from Victoria's Secret since I needed a few pair anyway and they were having a sale :). I figure I'm almost 20, it wouldn't be right not to own a pair of panties from Victoria's Secret.
Got of VS at like nearly quarter to, so I made a mad dash (or maybe just a fast walk) back to the bus a couple blocks away. I was not the last there, which is always good. Left on time and headed back to Hope.

On our way back, at Stevensville (4 miles north of my hometown) a girl on the bus had a pretty severe seizure. We had to pull over and call an ambulance. Last I heard (last night when we got back) she was doing ok. The rest of us got back to Hope around 1.

And yea, that was my Saturday. Today- history homework! I went to college christmas concert earlier this afternoon, the choirs did a good job.

Ledadada- Thanks for the Christmas card!
