I already feel like its the weekend, mainly because I went to Chicago yesterday. I went with the Germran club to see the Christkindlmarkt. It's a Christmas market on State Street with a bunch of German vendors. They had a couple vendors from other countries as well, like one from Nepal- one of my friends would find that amusing I'm sure. Didn't buy anything for myself, mainly because a: a lot of it was very expensive or b: I really don't need anything and don't have anyplace to put it. Ornaments are cool but I wasn't about to pay $10 for one. I did buy my brother a house, a castle rather, for his Christmas village.
Some people had never been to Chi-town (that's what the locals, and those who get all their tv and radio stations, call the city) before and headed down the Magnificant Mile. As for me, I've been down there before, so I headed over to the Sears Tower and went straight to the top. Not a cheap affair, but it's something in Chicago I haven't seen. Supposedly on a clear day, you can see Michigan, but it was a bit foggy, so I could really only see Chicago and a bit of the burbs. I think I could make out Gary along the lake though. I played Ferris Bueller and stood on the rail and put my head on the glass. It was kind of like a Ferris Bueller day all day, going to Chicago on a Thursday. Though I don't have class on Thursday anyway, so I wasn't skipping anything.
And I got to see Marshall Fields' window decorations! Marshall Fields decorates the windows on the west side of the building so that the sequence of windows tells a fairly tale. This year's was Snow White. I've heard so many people rave about this, and it was so cool to be able to see it. I then went inside the store to see the Christmas decorations and holy crap! I think I could spend a week in that store! It takes up a whole city block and goes 8 stories high. So much stuff in there it was unbelievable. And the in-store decorations were a treat as well, though I think the 20 foot wreath inside the Sears Tower hass it beat.
If you ever get the chance to go to Chicago in December, do it! Shopping is a pain because the lines are super long, but everything else is just so awesome, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
