Each day in Studies in Islam begins with a "Qur'an Moment", in which we discuss things that caught our attention. Mind you, in a Boyd Wilson class, "begin" means that we spend 40 minutes on it. Annnnnywho, I was going to bring this up, but we ran out of time.
"oh ye who believe! when ye go abroad in the cause of God, investigate carefully, and say not to anyone who offers you a salutaion: 'thou art none of a Believer!'" (as this particular translation reads. I can't say those are exact words, because like, I don't speak Arabic.)

Christianity needs to take some pointers from the Qur'an. Because sometimes, in the opinion of someone who dislikes religion in general, it just gets it so much better. The way I read this part is that if you're going someplace far far away, don't automatically assume everyone is a heathen. Find out what people believe before you try to convert anyone (my opinions on conversion aside). This whole point of evangelical trips is where Christianity really drives me nuts. You get some missionaries who go to preach to the unfaithful, without knowing a thing about the people they're meeting/going to meet. Especially like, evangelical trips to Mexico or places like that. Last time I checked, Mexico was a Catholic country.

In even simpler terms: listen before you speak. You'll communicate more effectively if you do.

and now for something completely different

I have to get up at 5 am tomorrow. SUCKY. I really should be going to bed like, now. I don't know how I'm going to make it til my 10pm Mortar Board meeting, especially if I'm pulling a 5 hour shift before I even go to class.
aaaaand I haven't studied my vocab yet. Crap.
