I know it sounds silly to be getting excited over statistics, but check this out: Austin, Texas- Unemployment: 3.6% (from 3.8%). ! I found that in an article about the 10 cities that have best weathered the recession. I currently live in a county where the unemployment rate is at 8% and the state average is damn near 9. So yes, this is exciting for me.

I am officially declaring, by the way, that I am moving in September. Work wants me to stay but won't offer me full time, so it's really not an option for me. I need to get the heck out of here anyway. I don't have a set date that I'm leaving yet, as I need to troll the internets for people of a relatively sane demeanor who are in need of a roommate or subletter. In short, I need a place to live. The whole job thing I will truly worry about when I get there, for I have worked in enough industries that I can find something that pays while I look for something permanent (and not have to hop a plane for an interview). Sure it's gutsy, but I'm not gonna get anywhere in life without taking chances. I think the factors of knowing people in the area and also getting that "I could live here" kind of feeling having visited made me say "yea, let's do this". Which is why I didn't go to say, Phoenix, where I know not a soul and have never laid eyes on. So it's a risk, but not so much of one that I'm setting myself up for something that could turn out truly bad. If that makes sense.

So um, to all the Texas chicas on my FL, I'm joining you.
