day 4, Sunday: Got up again this morning around 7:30. Started out the day by going to find the Moulin Rouge, just to take a picture of it. I ended up by accident at the Moulin De La Gatte, which is a dancehall with a windmill that is made of wood. It was a big attraction in the 1800s I guess. The Moulin Rouge was close by, but I needed to get directions first. Turns out it is in the red light district of Pairs- porn shops galore down that street. Being that it was a fairly busy street, but still a Sunday morning, I didn't have any problems with shady people.

So then I walked the very long walk down to the Place d'Republique, the symbol of the republic of France. It didn't look like a long walk on the map, but it took me a good 20 minutes or more.

The carvings on the sides of it represent brotherhood, freedom, and something else I can't remember.

So then I headed towards the cemetery where Jim Morrison is buried. It's a huge cemetery, the largest in Paris, I think. Lots of famous people are buried there.
Including: Chopin

and Oscar Wilde

All those marks are lip prints. No idea why, but I found it rather amusing.

All the graves are above ground. You can't bury people underground in Paris, can't specifically remember why though.

After I finished walking through more hm...45 minutes, 1 hour, it was around lunchtime. I found a little place right close by and had an omelet, which I had been craving, and hot chocolate (it was rather cold outside and hot chocolate does wonders). Then I headed over to the Bastille, which is where the French Revolution started. The actual bastille was torn down after the revolution, so all that remains there is a monument.

So then I headed down past the river, on another very long walk to the catacombs.

This is the view I had passing over the river. I passed on the way there the prison where Charles De Gaulle was held for a while in WW2. Got to the catacombs around 2:30, but had to wait in line for like an hour to get in. The catacombs are underground tunnels, dug originally for mining, then were used as a place to put all the bones that had to be dug up after a plague in the late 1800s in addition to the bones of all the people that got axed in the revolution.

When I came up, I had absolutely no idea where I was on the map, but luckily I found a metro station and got on that to get up to the Seine. I went to the Museum Orsay, which is a museum of impressionism art. This museum also has a lot of famous pieces, which is why I decided to check it out. The museum is no where near as old as the Louvre, only about 20 years old in fact, and is housed in what used to be a train station. You can kind of tell from the inside

While I was there I saw

A Renoir that I cannot remember the name of.

Van Gogh's self portrait and his bedroom painting.

The Gleaners

And a LOT of Monets.

I was there for probably about an hour, but I couldn't have stayed much longer anyway, since they were half an hour from closing when I left. I went back over to St. Michael's for dinner, to that same crepe place, because crepes are wonderful. Being rather hungry, I had a regular crepe and a banana crepe. Yum, crepes.

After that, I had seen practically everything in Paris that I had wanted to see, my feet were killing me from walking around that whole city for 2 days, and I was kind of worn out from it as well. The closing ceremonies were on that night, so I went back and watched those.

I still have 6 days left to cover, but they aren't quite as exciting as I was in meetings for a good chunk. But that shall come within the next couple days.
Mood:: 'blah' blah

Girl, you make it so we feel like we're ther with you! Keep it up! And I know this is a macabre kind of question, but regarding the above ground cemeteries.....isn't there an odor? Seriously.

Hehe. Sorry. I know that was hideous. I'm awful.
