One final note about Brussels- some of the red lights in the city are shaped like hearts.
Day whatever, first day in Berlin: Got up, had breakfast, headed out. I bought a day pas to use for the subway, but I somehow lost it after one trip. I wanted to go to the German History Museum, but when I got there at 9, I found out that it didn't open til 10. I had a couple meetings that day, so I wouldn't have been able to spend very much time there- figured I'd wait til the next day. So I just walked around the area a bit. I found a real cheap bookstore and there I bought a calendar and two books. In german of course.
Found a lunch place by the Brandenburg gate, where I had to change from regular clothes to dress clothes. Met with a member of the German parliament (he was pretty interesting) and someone from the economic ministry (I didn't really understand anything she said). After that I changed and went to the Holocaust Memorial, which was not there last time I was in Berlin. Just opened last year. ABove ground it was a maze of blocks that looked like tombs, and there was a free museum underground.
Next day I had class til 3. After which, I went to that history museum. Turns out they only had 2 exhibits and it was all pictures, so that was a letdown. I decided after that to go to the Jewish History Museum. That was pretty cool, they had some really old artifacts and interesting stories. Our program took us out to dinner that day at a traditional german restaurant. I had berlin-style beef roll. It's beef rolled around onions and a pickle. It was pretty good, but between that and the red cabbage and potatoes, I couldn't finish all of it.
I think that was about all to Berlin, I'd been there before, so nothing overly exciting. Last day we hopped a train at 9-ish and came back to Freiburg at around 4. To 8 inches of snow when there was none in Berlin, nonetheless.
And that ladies and gents was my trip.
