I can't believe I've only been here for 2 weeks. It feels like so much longer than that. I'm still kind of in "oh, I have to try this and do this!" mode, my brain not quite realizing that, hello, I live here now, I have all the time in the world to do such things.
Which I suppose is why it feels like longer than 2 weeks, I have done more in the past 16 days than I think I did all summer.
I can say a few things about Austin so far:
Feeder roads are both a blessing and a curse. They're nice for when I really don't know what exit I am looking for and thus just take the feeder, and can sometimes be faster if highway traffic is really bad. On the other hand, you miss your highway exit and getting back to it is a pain in the ass, plus all the merging both on an off the highway creates a lot of congestion, and it can be hard to see cars coming off the highway (as what happened on Tuesday).
People here seem to be pretty nice. Not like Hope College everyone says hi whether they know you or not, but not standoffish either. I haven't had anyone be rude to me thusfar, and I appreciate that.
It's mid-October and I'm still wearing shorts. I like this.
It's really lively here. Not like Grand Rapids, which was a frickin ghost town after 6 and on weekends. I like it. If I want to go out and do something, I have a million options (which will be more fun when I have some friends to do things with). Most of it is super close too. Also on the plus side is that the liveliness doesn't really follow me home- my neighborhood is so quiet I think I've seen like 3 cars drive past my house in the whole 2 weeks I've been here.
So yea, I think I'll like it here. Once I find a better job, I will like it more.
