3 days ago I had nothing planned at all for this weekend. It ended up having lots of excitement.
Yesterday I went to a board games meetup group in Round Rock, to go play Scrabble and Boggle. There were 7 women there, and it was a lot of fun. Met someone who lives in my neighborhood and also just moved here.
Then last night I drew myself a map and decided to drive down to San Antonio to cheer on [profile] roselily87 in the San Antonio Rock and Roll Marathon/Half-Marathon. I can't say if I saw her or not, considering 30,000 people ran in the race (not a typo, that's as many people as the population of Holland running in one race). I did see someone in a santa costume! And br, it was cold this morning. That's not me becoming a sudden wuss; I could see my breath this morning.
It was fun cheering everyone on. I like being loud at races (one of the things I miss about competitive swimming). They were just as into it, some runners yelling at the crowd to get hyped.

I was wearing a shirt with this on it:

One of the runners saw me and said "Go Tigers!" as he passed by. Then at the finish line, the couple that were stading in front of me turned around to leave, and the guy says "hey Tigers!", unzips his jacket, and he's got on a similar shirt. Amusing.
Walking around San Antonio I spotted this:

That company shut down years ago, but their old HQ? Right across he street from where I lived last year.
I NEVER LEFT.

Since I was in San Antonio anyway, I decided to make another stop on my Triple D tour! I wanted to go to The Cove, which is a restaurant/carwash, but it was closed. So, after calling my roommate and begging for directions to the other place in San An, I went to the Tip Top Cafe. There was someone I followed from the first place to the second who had the same idea. The food was good, the rolls were amazing. This place is truly a stereotypical southern diner- the clientele were mostly elderly or truckers, you got the waitresses who know everyone, the chef was who regularly checking the score of the football game, green and brown decor, and not to mention deer and fish on the walls. The bathrooms were also outside, which is weird. This makes diner #5 for me.

San Antonio is kind of an odd city. Downtown is quite nice, and I love how easy it is to walk around the city. Getting out to where the diners were, it got grungy really fast. I'm not sure if it's just that part that's like that though.

The first time I came to Austin, it felt to me like it was a city, but not a city. Part of it was because it doesn't have too many skyscrapers, but I just noticed today on my way out of town that part of it is also because Austin does not have burbs like cities up north do. Round Rock is really the only suburb of Austin. In any other direction, you hit farmland before you hit a city/town again. So the subdivisions and other typical burb neighborhoods are actually in the city proper here.

The girls and I are running in the Disney World half marathon in January and have signed up to be be volunteers for the the full marathon - they're on two different days, because there are so many runners. We're going to be "screamers" cheering people on and I think that'll be almost as much fun as running will be.
