fruit juice rant

I hate the american approach to fruit juice. Buy juice here that isn't orange juice, and whatever flavor it is, it actually consists of apple and grape juice with a hint of whatever juice it says on the label. Buy strawberry banana juice here, and it's clear. When I bought strawberry banana juice in Germany, it poured out looking like liquid bananas.

I'm not just arguing on principle here, though some people certainly could. I have an intolerance to something that I suspect is a preservative, and anything with high levels of grape juice in it gives me major stomach aches. Unfortunately ingredient labels don't list proportions, so I go in blind a lot of the time. I know which flavors of juicy juice I can handle- except my local grocery store only sells 3 flavors. grrrr stupid HEB. Otherwise I tended to stick to orange juice based juices, but after my ER incident, I haven't been able to drink OJ either because of the acidity level. I currently have pineapple, apple, and peach in my cupboard, but I'd like to have more selection. I love juice, I just can't drink a lot of it.

In conclusion: change the way you make juice, america.

I'm pretty boggled at the idea of *clear* strawberry+banana juice! If you can afford it, I suppose a juicer and the raw fruit would be the way to go. Or a blender, to mush them together into smoothies, to which you might add ice or bought juice?

Over here, the rule is that the ingredients are listed by quantity, so whatever there is most of is first on the list.

Hm, I should look into that. I'm really not sure how much juicers run here.

We have that rule too, but it could as easily be almost half apple half grape as it could 2/3 apple 1/3 grape. I'd really prefer if they left the grape juice out of my strawberry kiwi juice. :P

At least here the ingredients are listed by amount, ie. the main ingredient comes first. So that might give you some clue.

That's the case here too, but it could well be 50% apple and 43% grape as easily as 75% apple 20% grape, unfortunately. :(
