Guess what y'all? I got rearended on my way home from work. I knew it was bound to happen eventually, in the mess they call traffic here. Luckily I was going only about 15 mph, when I braked hard to avoid hitting the person in front of me (I didn't), so it wasn't like there was any impact. Only thing on my car is some grey paint scrapes. I even made the local traffic report.

Say you're a supervisor/manager, and one of your employees comes to you and says they're going back to school. The degree they want to get is one similar to yours. What is your reaction?

There's an immigration law conference in San Antonio in October, and I'd like to go to test the waters and see if immigration law is really what I want to go to school for. I'd like to ask one of the lawyers at work if I would be able to understand the presentations without a law degree, since the lawyers go to conferences by the same organization every now and then, but I'm kind of afraid to ask. I have a bit of a fear of authority figures when it comes to work. And I'm not sure how they'd construe me doing something like this.

If someone came to me about school, I would talk to them and ask questions, and generally be happy for them.

Sorry about the car...that sucks.

From my limited experience, lawyers really, really like to talk about the law. And almost all of them really like situations where they feel like they're acting as mentors. I think it would be an odd person who would see genuine interest as some sort of a faux pas.

I'd be delighted to answer the questions of a person who actually asks instead of just assuming they know everything better than me. It would make me feel needed and appreciated, and it would probably be hard to make me shut up once I get going. ;)

Good luck getting the scrapes fixed!
