Been marathoning Cold Case recently. Watching all the old eps I missed when I was into Desperate Housewives.
One of the things on this show is that it uses music from the year the person was killed. Well, one ep in season 3, the song that opens the show is the theme from House. I was a little weirded out by that. It has words, would you believe that? Should Cold Case ever actually make it to dvd, I can see some issues with licensing there.

It's a song by the band Massive Attack called Teardrop. But I think it was released in 1998 so I'm not sure how that would work for a "cold case"...?

Well, the person was killed in 98, hence the use of the song.

Nah, they probably all had to pay royalties to the original artist. No issues there.

That's kind of an awesome theme, though, using period music to set the scene (and as specific as what song was popular in what year). Oh god, I just thought that if someone died now they might play that Lady Gaga song. 2009 is a bad time to die.

Actually, the licensing and royalty issues are why there are no plans for the show ever to go to DVD. Simply too expensive. The music really does make each episode though. My fav is the one the used Rocky Horror for and had Brian Bostwick star in. Loved that.

Yeah, that's what I heard to. Hence, I am downloading the eps. And you're right, it totally does make the episodes.

I don't think I could pick a favorite episode. I watched one the other day that was particularly heartbreaking where an abusive husband dropped his daughter off the bridge to get back at his wife.

Oh God. That would have just made me insanely mad. It's why I have to take big long breaks from watching L&O. People are just nuts!

Hm, ok, still don't have a favorite, but one of the ones I really liked was the White Flight episode. Seen that one?
