That's really interesting! I've never seen the parts cast that way. And it would make the scene of Laertes giving Ophelia patronising advice in the early scene incredibly funny and interesting, as well as highlighting just how patronising the advice is.

Indeed. It almost makes up for my pet peeve of non-20-something Hamlets.

I tend to go by the gravedigger scene, and get crotchety when Hamlet doesn't at least appear to be in the vicinity of 30. But I am prepared to make exceptions for actors by the name of Kenneth Branagh or Derek Jacobi, at least on film...
