Curling is harder than it looks.

Throwing the rock is the tough part. You start in a squat with one foot on something similar to the starting blocks you see in track. This is the foot you push off with, and the one that gets extended behind you. (This is where your power in launching the rock comes from, and those rocks are heavy!) Your other foot is flat on the ice and you keep your knee bent. This foot has a slip on over it, which is basically a friction-less cover so you can glide further. It is also very easy to fall on your ass with it on. Keeping that stance is a hell of a lot trickier than it looks.
