Alright yo. I just watched Serenity (the movie). I tried to love it. I really did. I just did not see the awesome that everyone keeps telling me about.
I kind of get that feeling. I need to see it myself (I've just seen the uh, Joan from Mad Men bits because my priorities are sooo in order) but it looks like it is good but not as good as everyone is always saying.
Have you seen Firefly? Because honestly, I can understand not getting the awesome if you haven't seen the setup. (I can actually understand some of the complaints even WITH the setup, but they're different.) I will always love it, though.
The series is better. But If it's not your thing it's ok. I just rewatched the whole thing las week. As a space show it's one of my favourites. +No aliens. I like it when they're no aliens. Like in BSG.
I'm pretty meh about the movie, but I loved the series to death. They tried to cram too much into the movie (while simultaneously retconning other stuff), but the series is a lot of fun.
I like Firefly, but Serenity is...ugh. It bores me (except for the choreography in River's fight scenes, which is legitimately amazing). I can't even convince myself that it's part of the same canon: it may have the same actors playing characters with the same names in what's allegedly the same universe, but they just don't feel like the same people or places.
It's worse than the disconnect between Farscape S4 and Peacekeeper Wars.
Seriously, it's okay. everyone has different tastes. At least you like Gaeta!
(also, I'm of two minds about seeing the series first. I took a complete Firefly newbie to the opening night of Serenity and he loved it. It's definitely different than the series. In both good and bad ways.)
