Renting old movies is really a lot harder than it should be.
It being Memorial Day weekend, I really don't know what to do with myself. I usually avoid going anywhere, because everywhere is packed, which I am indeed doing today. But I usually also watch Law & Order marathons on TNT, and I don't have cable this year. :(
Remix authors have been revealed! Thank you
pensnest, for a lovely remix! I had a pretty good idea it was you who'd written it. :)
I can now say that I wrote The First Day of The Rest of His Life (Perfect Distraction mix) for Aeiouna, aka
linear_flower.
My first thought when getting my assignment was "who the hell is Aeiouna?" Then I did some digging and found her LJ, and realized I did in fact know who this person was. I've read a couple of her MTYG stories, but was not familiar with the rest of her work. I knew she's pretty much Backstreet only, which created a bit of a challenge for me, since I've only written them in a couple crossovers.
Picking a story was pretty easy. I started reading Aieouna's stories, and The First Day of the Rest of His Life really jumped out at me. Particularly the line where it reveals that Nick had quit cold turkey. I had an uncle quit like that, and I know it's a very difficult thing to do, so I really wanted to explore that a little more.
If you recall my post asking if Nick ever smoked: I honestly had no idea. I'm know the basics of Backstreet canon, but not any of the details like that. So I really needed to know if I was working with an AU or if this was canon and I needed to stay faithful to actual events. Turns out it was AU, which gave me the freedom of time setting. Nick quitting in 1999 would have transpired a lot differently than I had it in 2006, I think.
It's funny, because I don't write popslash that often anymore, but this came really easily to me. Much easier than my bsg remix, actually. I had this done before that one.
So, thank you
linear_flower, for letting me play in your universe! It was a lot of fun.
Also thank you to
msktrnanny for your excellent beta services.
