Technically I think the Tron film is a sequel (and I am sure I've seen it spelled as T2ON because that makes sense.) Honestly the films that really bother me that are remade are old dramas (like the fact that they tried to remake Guess Who's Coming To Dinner with a white boy and a black girl, as if that was going to actually raise any interesting issues (to be fair, I've never seen this film, I only know of it because they shot one scene in my hometown and like half the girls gathered around to see if they could see Ashton Kutcher.)) I feel like effects-driven films are the ones that benefit from remakes.

But yeah, there are so many screenwriters that are eager to hae their ideas picked up, but in a less than great economy studios would rather bet on something like Shrek 4.

That remake was terrible. I think I tried watching it, and it just didn't fly.

True about the effects driven ones though. It certainly did wonders for Star Trek.
