Day of Silence

I am going silent tomorrow. No talking all day. Zip. It's a protest against anti GLBT actions and sentiments in many schools across the nation. Being here at Hope where people are particularly close minded when it comes to sexuality, I feel it's important.
There is a National Day of Silence, which is actually next Wednesday, not sure who at Hope mixed that up. But at least we have it, even if it is the wrong week. This is the blurb on Hope's website for student event updates:
The Sexual Issues Programming Committee, Women's Studies and the CrossRoads Project are co-sponsoring a Day of Silence where students and some faculty members will be taking a day long vow of silence to protest the silencing, harassment and discrimination of LGBT individuals.

I know that people who read this journal vary in their opinions on homosexuality. Please know that this is my decision to support a cause I believe to be right, so please don't post any discriminatory comments.

I think it's awesome you are supporting a cause you believe in, having gone a day without talking before in sponsor of another awareness day during high school I know how difficult it is and what a big effort it takes. Good luck!

I will agree with Mneme and say that it is good to support social issues that you are particularly concerned about. I can't say I'm in particular agreement with the people behind this day, nor am I particularly one against awareness of the issue. In a certain sense I must side with the conservative Christians on this issue and say that I do not approve of homosexuality. Although I agree with the people on the other side and say that we should not discriminate against homosexuals. Love the sinner, hate the sin as they always say. Love and compassion are universals meant for all people: murderers, homosexuals, liars, Satanists, Jedi Knights, Clinton (which may be synonymous with a previous term used on this list), Mother Teresa and everyone else. So my strange battle cry rings out, "Down with discrimination! Down with homosexuality! I love you all!" :)

Eh...respectfully, i would hardly put a gay person in the same catagory as a murderer...and, Mother Theresa??? Good Lord.

That's exactly why I put Mother Theresa in there. My whole point is that we all fit in that category. We all have flaws. None of us are perfect. Therefore we can't talk down to anyone for we are all lowly, sinful beings. That does not mean that we encourage poor behavior though! We are meant to love all and if possible lead people to see the sin that is in their life. To illustrate my point I will update my last entry.
