Degrassi: The Next Generation My college roommate got me hooked on this one. I thought I wouldn't like it because it's a show about teenagers, for teenagers. But turns out it is 10 times better than anything on Nickelodeon or Disney channel. They aren't afraid to go there on all sorts of issues. (Probably because it's made in Canada and they don't censor as much as we do here.) Real issues, things real teenagers actually deal with! People get bad grades, STDs, families aren't always happy, there's even a school shooting in season 4. Probably the most realistic show about teens on television.
(Bonus awesome points: the shows creators name every episode after an 80's song).

Finished watching Patton. (Another one of my WWII list) One of those Best Picture winners that was actually good. You can tell it was made in the 60s, and the battle scenes leave a little something to be desired, but it's really more of a character driven movie. Patton was slightly insane, which makes the movie interesting.

One criticism: the translation for the German stinks.

In other news, random science is awesome

09. Best scene ever
I have 2 for today: scripted and unscripted. I won't say these are the best scenes ever made on television, but they are two of my favorites scenes.

Thusly:

The Red Line scene from Daybreak Part 1. You can read about why I love this here. When Adama says "Make your choice!" I feel like stepping over that red line myself.

Unscripted:

Best. Explosion. EVER.
(Though coffee creamer cannon is pretty up there too)

Big mega remix is out! The Story written for/of me is Croak (the Salientian and Sorry Remix), in which JC is delightfully insane and Nick is a frog. Go read it, because yes! Thank you remixer!

(Also, I was totally right in calling popslash). There are only 3 other popslashy stories, so it won't take you long to read them all. :)

For the BSG people, go read The Story of Those Who Always Loved You (The We Are Family Remix), like, right now. It's written from the perspective of 3 year old Hera, and the author does a marvelous job.

To avoid being redundant (and it's not like you all don't watch it anyway), I'm not going to say BSG for this.

Big Bang Theory. Confession: I really don't like sitcoms (don't get me started on Friends), but I love this show. I think it's hilarious. Some people might argue that it makes fun of nerds, and it sort of does, but not in the way the cruel school bully makes fun of nerds. It pokes fun at them in a way you can only poke fun at something if you actually love it. Some of the jokes you can really only get if you *are* nerdy (last week's Firefly joke for example).
And now that Leonard and Penny aren't together anymore, I suspect it's going to get better.

Just got back from Iron Man 2. I find Tony Stark more annoying in this film than the first. However, this movie has Samuel L. Jackson. Any movie is instantly more awesome with the additional of Samuel L. Jackson.
(Also, I've been sort of in love with Don Cheadle ever since I saw Hotel Rwanda)

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show

A Day In The Life. I'm one of those people who thinks Black Market isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I don't even mind The Woman King. But I really hate this episode. I tried to do a rewatch a while ago, and I couldn't force myself to sit through it. I do not care about Adama's long dead ex-wife who mattered not at all until this episode. Hell, even in the mini it appears he is way over her when he asks Lee about her nonchalantly. And we're led to believe she pops up in his head and taunts him once a year? Not to mention the woman herself...even Ellen was not as vindictive as CarolAnne.
If the B story had been any good, there may have been some saving grace to this episode. But instead we got "Chief and Cally get randomly trapped in an airlock and are forced to work out their marital problems or they will die."
(Oh by the way, this was also the beginning of the teeth brushing)

I spent this entire episode debating whether groom!Adama looks like Howie Dorough from the Backstreet Boys. You be the judge:

Remix this weekend, weeeee!

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Home, Pt. 2. The culmination of the Kobol arc, which is my favorite arc in the entire series. That moment where Earth stops being a fantasy and starts being real is such a great one. There's so much hope! (Which of course doesn't turn out so well, but eh, this is BSG after all.) You also expected quite a bit out of the mythology at this point. Kobol is where is all sort of came together in terms of the forces around them (of course, the conclusion for that wasn't so satisfying either). But!
Plus, all the characters are so great in this episode. Billy! Kickass Sharon! Scheming Zarek! Batshit crazy Baltar! Snarky Cottle! Inspirational slow clap Adama!
This was really the show at its best.

I'm on a WWII kick lately. This spring I've watched:

Flags of Our Fathers
Letters From Iwo Jima
Band of Brothers
Der Untergang
Saving Private Ryan
Das Boot

None of which I had ever seen before, mind you. I start The Pacific tonight.

So tell me FL. Have I missed any good ones?
