Well, Across the Universe is typical Julie Taymor (the director). She's directed the movies Frida (based on the life of Frida Kahlo), a film adaption of Titus Andronicus with Anthony Hopkins and the Lion King on Broadway. All of which are kind of unconventional. People either love her or hate her, really. And I love her. I believe she's one of the most original and visionary directors out there today. But I can totally understand if you completely didn't get Across the Universe! It gets a little "out there"!

I have seen Frida, don't remember much about it since I watched it in parts on tv. But I don't recall it being all that strange.
