Lunch in Texas

You ever notice how in a lot of towns, there seems to be one food item that you find more than others? Like, in Holland, there are a lot of places to get ice cream. Well, in Austin, it's definitely sandwiches. Aside from the national sandwich chains like Subway and Jimmy Johns, Austin has a lot of local sandwich chains- Thundercloud Subs, Jason's Deli, Texadelphia, Schlotzky's...to name a few. I tried a new place today- Potbelly (which after looking, is actually a Chicago based chain. huh. never seen one before). And I'm sure there are some independently run sandwich shops around town too. Austinites really love a sandwich. Maybe it's because I work at a government complex/next to UT, but Austin seems like a very lunch-friendly town.

Schlotzky's is national, too! And you've never been to Potbelly's in Chicago? I loooove PBs. I used to fly into Midway on purpose because there's a PBs there :P

Well, Schlotzky's was actually founded in Austin, so I count it as local.
And indeed I have not. I couldn't even tell you where one is in Chicago.

There's one on State Street right next to the House of Blues. And obviously one at Midway :P

There are Potbelly's in D-Town's suburbs. Really good! There is a Schlotzky's up at Birch Run, and I've seen them in Ohio too, but that's the only one in Michigan I know of!

For some reason or another, I think there used to be a Schlotzky's in Stevensville. The name sounded really familiar when I moved down here.

I always think of sandwiches as hot weather food. Maybe that's why. )

We have Jason's Deli here. I don't like their food.
