We've got to talking on
truekat's journal about the Pure Michigan commercials. I don't know if they've led directly to an increase in tourism, but I do have to say, for all the crap government we have up there, someone in the Chamber of Commerce did a really excellent job with these. I've seen a lot of state commercials- Texas (which even gets aired down here, how redundant is that?), Utah, Nebraska, Arkansas (I laughed at that one first time I saw it and it's not meant to be funny), but Michigan has honestly done a very successful job of making the state look gorgeous. And hey, some of it actually is. Michigan has a lot of nature going for it, and cute little towns with tulips and the like.
As much as I really, really needed to get the hell out, I do have a sense of pride in my state. It's still home.
So, here's a few videos for you all to see what I'm talking about. It took me watching these on youtube to realize that the narrator is Tim Allen. And yes, he's a Michigander.
Simple Sunrise
Treasure (this one I see on tv a lot)
Lost and Found- this one is the one I see most. Hey, we have some pretty cool lighthouses. My Holland peoples recognize one? :D
This one isn't the best of them, but that lighthouse at the very end? That's right by my hometown. Just thought I'd share.
