(no subject)

I am quite possibly having WAY too much fun with the manip challenge.

:DDD

I am so lacking ideas right now. Also talent. I just barely managed to enter the rainbow icons!

I finally figured out GIMP, after hours of messing with it. Now I have this great urge to play around.
Mine aren't laugh out loud funny like the examples, but I like what I did with them.

GIMP and I are not on happy terms right now. (WTF is up with this layering crap?? Don't answer that; I just need to struggle with it for an afternoon, and today was really not the day to do so.)

But yes, it'll be lots of fun to see this challenge's results... :)

It took me forever to figure out GIMP enough to work it. Program desperately needs a good tutorial.

The best part about layering is that its essentially non-destructive (meaning that the original image underneath doesn't lose data- every adjustment directly to the image erases pixel data). I don't know if GIMP has adjustment layers- a layer that holds adjustments like contrast and color balance off of the original image so that you can tinker with them together (instead of say, realizing 20 alterations down the line that you'd rather the whites were brighter and the table was actually green.)

Does that make any sense?

It makes a lot of sense, yes. I'm sure once I get the hang of it, it'll be great. The thing right now isn't that the features don't make sense; it's that I don't know how to use them. But I'll get there eventually.

I have one idea that I think will be great. I believe strongly in the power of something that makes you laugh for a minute solid the first time you think about it.

The other ones I think will come while I'm at work tomorrow.
