(no subject) [puszysty]

I have been getting hints lately that I was not welcome in Scott Hall. I mean, by some people I was, and in fact encouraged to move here, but just recently I have been comments to the contrary. For instance- we're playing a guess who game, where we have to guess which person is which from pictures. While I was up there playing, someone walked by and I mentioned something like 'Man this is making me bad, with the people I don't know." This person replied "You shouldn't be playing, you've only been here this semester." I don't know if they were joking or what, but that hurt. I mean, I haven't lived here all here, but a semester is nothing to scoff at, in addition to all the time I spent here before I moved in.
Now today someone asked me if I was invited to the Phelps Scholar Banquet (org within Scott Hall). I was not. This person said that some people who weren't in the program were invited. Why them, I have no idea. I realize not it's a big deal, but....

People want me here, don't they? If I'm not welcome here, I'm not welcome anywhere. College can't be like that, not like high school.

I think that your problem may be that you want "people" to want you there. I think that it was Lincoln who said, "You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." I think rather than trying to be welcomed by "people" it would be better to aim to be welcomed by individuals. There will always be naysayers and flat out jerks, but remember that there are individuals who are more than willing to welcome you. If they don't want you there they need to grow up and realize that it is because they are stupid and feel inferior when compared with your maturity and intelligence. Don't let people get you down. Smile it confuses people! :)
