About DAMN time. UCLA sent me an email today. They waitlisted me.

The bachelorette party I am planning on going to in May will include bar hopping in the Holland area. In other words: I get to relive college for a night! Woo! If we played Settlers of Catan afterwards, it really would be college all over again.

I bought a cute pair of white shoes today to go with my dress (black sandals weren't really gonna cut it with the dress I bought). I'm usually not much of a shoe shopper, but these ones just jumped out at me right away. There shall be pictures of the ensemble later. Let's just say it's very fitting for spring.

I fly out Friday morning for wedding #1 (not the one with the bachelorette party). I honestly can't say I've been this anxious to go home since I moved here. I don't even know why. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to ever move back there. Maybe I'm just going stir crazy. God knows why I'd want to fly again after that disaster in Atlanta last month.

Speaking of law school, I think most of my office knows now where I've decided to go. I sort of let it trickle out rather than making some big announcement. Shame on me I know, I just never got around to formal notifications. Of course everyone is asking me when I'm moving, and truth is, I still have no clue. Mid-August I think. It all hinges on so many things, but that would be my latest. I hate that I have to find a sublet for a month here in town, gr.

In that regard, still no word from UCLA.

The University of Michigan called me today, and stated that they might have openings for summer, but probably none for fall. They asked if I was still interested, I told them I'd decided to attend Virginia this fall.

Still nothing from UCLA.

I've been watching Band of Brothers this past week. Featuring one Jamie Bamber (who is in 2 episodes. imdb says 3, but I can't find him in ep 9). I finished it last night, as I didn't want the concentration camp ep to be the last one I watched before bed. It's really good, I may have to watch it again at a later time, now that I think I can keep most of the main people straight. Such is the dilemma with most movies with large casts.

I wonder how many times they actually made jumps though. Surely more than the once we saw. Interesting fact, my grandfather was actually a paratrooper. Not in WWII though, too young, but he was in Korea. I don't know anything about what he did specifically, but I have respect for whatever it was after watching BoB.

I've put down my first deposit at Virginia. It's now official.

The Healthcare Bill extended funding for abstinence-only education. *angry face*

Speaking of the Healthcare Bill, it's completely taken over my life as far as work goes, but I kinda like it because I finally have something to do at work. I go nuts if I'm not productive, and now I am. I also still have 2000 pages to review for notes and see what needs to be inputted into our system. Yay! (This is totally going on my resume, btw.)

April is in 2 days and still no word from UCLA.

Random question: are Tia Rosa chips a national brand or are they just a Texas thing? I saw them on sale about a month ago and decided to try them. I have been completely in love ever since.

I decided to do some preliminary apartment hunting in VA last night, mostly to get grips on pricing. Damn Charlottesville is expensive. That or I'm just used to living in places that are cheap. I may have to fly out again this spring and apartment hunt. Hopefully not.

After being able to sit back and look at things objectively, I've decided to attend the University of Virginia. I believe that if I change my mind about what type of law I want to go into or where I want to live, UVa offers me that flexibility a lot more than UW does.

I'm not putting down my deposit until I get paid, because their fee is ridiculous. But. Yeah. I feel good about this.

Ok so. The longer I'm here, the more indecisive I get. My big big thing is geography and how that's gonna affect things.

I also got some conflicting info from career services and students. The student panel said that school rank doesn't matter, but in all honesty, what I think they meant was "within the top 12-ish, rank doesn't matter." Which makes sense. I mean, what difference does it make if you go to Harvard or Yale?

Washington is about #17, so just outside the elite school. Geographically it is more where I want to be. Career services here says that if you're looking outside of DC/NYC, to let them know in your first year, so they can start working with you about getting opportunities in the area you're looking. Sounds useful.

UW is having an admitted students weekend in April, and I'm debating going. I'm not sure if it will help me reach a decision or not. I think getting the student interaction at UW would give me a more balanced picture at least.

I just....gr. It's not easy.

On an aside, I met an admitted student who looks just like Kandyse McClure.

Was out watching the NCAA tourney at...someone's house. Pretty much all guys (surprise surprise). And hanging around with the 1L's didn't give me any particular insights as to the law school itself (they just finished briefs and are thus unwinding)...
However, it did give me a bit of insight as to the general attitude of people around here.
People are nice, and fairly welcoming, but definitely have that East Coast vibe that I really don't dig much. I think the big thing that gets me is the bit of a derisive attitude when I tell people my other top choice is the University of Washington. The conversation usually goes like this:
"Here and Washington."
"Like St. Louis?"
"No, Washington state."
"Oh. Why Washington?"

It's not outright disapproving by any means, but I still get that "why would you apply out there?" feel.

I really wish I had gotten this sort of experience at UW, just so I would have something to compare to.
You know what I also wish? That U of M hadn't waitlisted me. And that UCLA would finally give me an answer.

Got my admittance letter from Washington today. \o/

3 days ago it was snowing. Today I was in shorts. WTF.

ETA: Norway lost to Canada. Aw. But they still get silver!

I've been waitlisted at the U of M. Which is better than being told no outright, I guess, but still not what I was hoping for.
