Remember my post a few days ago wondering how the hell a biathalon works for the visually impaired? Well, I now have the answer. Thanks to wikipedia, I came across a blog of one such competitor, and one of her posts very nicely explains how shooting works.

Read it here
She has other interesting posts about the sport as well, if you're curious about such things.

I haz a TiVo! I had thought I would need a cable card (since that's what the people at Best Buy told me), but it turns out I didn't need one. Woo!

One of the skeleton competitors has a PhD in materials engineering. Builds his own sleds. So cool!

According to the announcers, ski jumping used to be insanely popular in Germany. That would explain the insane amount of ski jumping that I watched in 2006. They showed about every jumper in every round. I was so sick of ski jumping after a while. Lol.

As if ice dancing wasn't boring enough, all the teams are doing the exact same routine tonight. Gag me.

A meme, stolen from [personal profile] stellamira
1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment. (they're fictional and real, by the way)

2) Ask your flist to post questions in the comments. For example: 'One, nine and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?' 'Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?' 'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?' 'Write a drabble in which three and eleven fight crime.' (...possibly not technically a question.)

3) After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

I don't think they are going to show the women's 1000m speed skating event. :( That was the event I was at in Torino.

A snippet from the recap:
Nesbitt was serenaded by the band Kleintje Pils, which played "O Canada" and "We Are The Champions" while the crowd of more 7,000 rocked and rolled in a boisterous celebration the home fans had been waiting nearly a week to break out.

The Netherlands brought their band again! How crazy of fans do you have to be to bring your own brass band to a speed skating event? This is how nuts the Dutch are about speed skating.

Bjoerndalen won another medal today. Go him! That makes a whopping ten. Hell, he could tie Bjorn Dahle is he medals in the 2 remaining events.

All: That plane crash is nowhere near my office or house. Don't worry about me. Worry for the 2 people they took to the hospital burn units.

I'm using a portion of my tax refund money, which should be here in a couple days, and bought myself a TiVo. I looked at DVR through my cable company, but they only offer it if you subscribe to digital cable...which is $70+ a month. TiVo? $12.
I'm kind of excited about it. One, because I should have it set up for week 2 of the Olympics (which, heh, is what prompted me to buy it. *sheepish*). Two, the service term is 1 year, is attached to me and not my cable company, and it will be GREAT for when I have roommates again, because it eliminates tv battles. And I'll be able to watch Jeopardy again for the first time since I moved to Texas!

The University of Virginia contacted me again, this time about an admitted students open house. And they'll reimburse me up to $400 for airfare! I'm working on getting the time off now.

Good god, more trouble with the ice at Richmond Oval? Someone needs to get their act together. A figure skating-less night, woot. Figure skating just doesn't hold my attenion anymore like it used to.
