Hi! I iz back from downtown. Not drunk, for your knowledge, since I had a grand total of 2 drinks and spent the night dancing them off. Ended up at Spill, and since they play good music to dance to, I stayed. Not nearly the zoo it was last year. And I didn't notice any one costume in particular that I saw a lot more than the others. There were a lot of Batman characters, as well as Guitar Hero type characters.
Best costumes I saw were: Colonel Sanders, the newscasters from Anchorman, Lewis and Gilbert from Revenge of the Nerds, a group of people walking around as a Chinese dragon (complete with music and everything), and my top pick- the old guy from the movie Up. I didn't get it at first, he was walking around with a cane and carrying a balloon and a small house on a stick. Then it dawned on me and I thought, "that's awesome!" Didn't manage his picture, wish I had. Overall though, the costumes at Dragon*Con were better.

While at Spill, some creepy guy in a karate outfit tried to dance a little too close. I backed off until he got the hint. Someone not so creepy dressed as Indiana Jones offered to buy me a drink, and hey, free liquor!, so I took him up on the offer. I'm always in general suspicious, especially as I'm not that good looking, and tend to stay away from guys, and my thought was "ok, who is this guy and why is he hanging by the dj booth?" Turns out the DJ was his best friend and he was a cop. Yes, a real cop, not one of the endless costume cops.

In less exciting news, I thought for a moment that I had lost my driver's license. I went to show ID at the door and the window where I keep it was empty. I knew I hadn't lost it today since my wallet hadn't even been out of my purse at that point, so I made a note to look when I got home and then freak out if I couldn't find it. I still keep my International Student ID on me, which has my birthday on it, so I was able to get in. As for my driver's license, it was in the binder I had brought to the law fair on Monday- I put it in there in case they wanted an ID for whatever reason, and had forgotten to take it out.

I left since it was getting a little packed in the bar, and I wanted to get on the road before everyone else did. Now I'm going to bed. I can't hear a damn thing, dancing a little close to the speakers.

I will not freak about about law school applications. I will not freak out about law school applications.

I've done a few practice LSAT questions from a book I am keeping at work to practice during my lunch hour. Thusfar, I've discovered that it seems I do not need to be studying for the analytical reasoning section. The questions I've encountered are way easier than some of the logic puzzles I do for fun. I've solved the famous "Who Owns the Zebra?" puzzle, if anyone's familiar with that.
That said, the logical reasoning section seems a bit more difficult than first glance. I really hate those questions that give a paragraph then ask you which of the following most closely resembles the same logic in the above paragraph. Hate it!

I went to a law school fair this past Monday, and spoke to a few schools that are on the list. The guy from Wilamette was particularly helpful, I think largely because not too many people were coming to that table (not too many Texans looking to practice law in Oregon I guess). He gave me a few pointers as far as personal statements and the dreaded resume. Yay! Also got a few questions answered from other schools. Penn State may be going on the B list, because their law school is split between 2 campuses, and that sounds frankly like a pain in the ass if my interested courses were in both schools instead of one.

My hope is to start submitting stuff in the next couple weeks. I think I can get it done. My transcripts and letters of recoemmendation are already out of the way, so that's good.

Do any of the Austinites on my FL know of exciting goings-on this weekend? I want to get out and do something Halloween related.

I want to see a psychologist. I can't afford to see a psychologist. I've had more breakdowns this month than I've had in a while. Though I don't know what the point in seeing a psychologist would be when I already know what's wrong.

It's a crippling fear that I'm overestimating my abilities and I won't get into law school and thus stuck in my soul sucking job for another year.

It's the fact that I keep skipping meetups that sound interesting because they cost more than I'm willing to pay to hang out with people I've never met. Even the Thriller thing this year was like that. Last year it was free, this year they tried to charge me $15 for it. Tickets to Seattle broke the bank for me this month, and I didn't have $15, plus, it was free last year. On principle alone it's ridiculous, but that didn't prevent me from having a breakdown after discovering that fact when I went.

It's the fact that my mom visiting has made me more aware of how inescapably lonely I am. The very scant amount friends I have here never seem to want to spend time with me. The only people I meet at meetups are middle aged. But I'm afraid to talk to my friends back home, because they will inevitably ask me when I'm coming home, which in turn makes me even more upset/angry, because I do not, have not, will not have any intention of EVER going back to Bridgman or any place resembling it, and yet people can't seem to stop asking me.

I just want my life to be better, but I don't know if it's possible.

One of the churches I drive by every day has a replica of the Berlin Wall up with the words "What are the walls in your life?" painted on it. I'm...not sure how I feel about that.

Out of sheer curiousity, I hit up the local gay interest store today. It was mostly just an underwear and video porn shop. Their literature selection was pretty pithy, and that was really what I was interested in anyway. I certainly wasn't there for the men's underwear. And I have to say, this sounds totally adolescent of me, but I was a bit freaked out looking at the videos with dicks on the cover of most of them. It's a rather unattractive looking organ. God, my future sex life is doomed.

I've discovered that, much to my surprise, the Austin Public Library has a couple of the Strachey novels available to rent. Yay! I poked around after returning The Feminine Mystique. Which I have to say was interesting, though most definitely a product of its time. It's still relavant in certain aspects of course, but is mostly a description of the way things are. There are also some theories she presents that both homosexuality and autism are caused by everpresent mothers who don't let their children find independence. I guess the prevalant thought of the day, but rather offensive sounding today.

I looked at the song list for Guitar Hero 5 the other day. The fact that there's an Elton John song on there makes me laugh. Guess what else is included? Yeah. All Along The Watchtower. THEY HAVE A PLAN, Y'ALL.

I found out that I can wear a costume to work on October 30. \o/ Since my BSG outfit is shoulder bearing (my genie outift, which is slightly mismatched, involves a halter top, so that was out), I went out to see if I could find a green jacket to complete my BDU outfit. Lo and behold, I got one! Even better- it has motor oil stains on it, which since they are red and black, looks like I fought off a minor explosion on board. :D

Anyone know where I can find pins and patches, so I can doll it up a little?

Also, I heard on the radio that they are canceling Dollhouse. I'm surprised my FL is not up in arms at the moment.
