I'm applying for residency status for U of M for their law school. They want to know all physical addresses I've had in the last 5 years.
......

That's 9 different addresses.

9.

I found this little snippet on an article about "15 tourist traps you should skip" on msn:

Dresden, Germany, is an ancient European capital with cobblestone streets, beautiful, centuries-old buildings and a fabulous history. Once this was the seat of Saxon monarch Augustus the Strong; bombed to oblivion in World War II, it has been lovingly reconstructed with the help of British and American philanthropic groups, and today stands as a monument to peace and reconciliation. Salzburg, Austria, is also a cobblestone-street historic capital, the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. But Dresden is more economical, less crowded and more meaningful than Salzburg.

Ok, WHAT? Having been to both, I can honestly say that Dresden in no way shape or form compares to Salzburg Austria. For starters, Dresden was in communist territory, and it shows. If you want look at all the fabulous grey square buildings of Dresden as opposed to the bright colorful, medieval era buildings of Salzburg, be my guest.
For two, as said author mentions above, Dresden was bombed to oblivion in WW2. You can drive around Dresden and still see places they're trying to reconstruct.
For three, there aren't any castles in Dresden that I can recall.

I thought Dresden was interesting, but awfully drab. And it sure as hell ain't Salzburg.

I think Penn State is getting scratched from the list. After talking with someone at the law fair and now having read through their materials, their 2 campus set up seems like a giant pain in the ass. If you want to take a class that's only offered at the other campus from the one you signed up at, you can do so via AV distance learning or commute to the other campus. I don't know what AV learning is like, but after I graduated from Hope, I attempted to follow along with Japanese 202 while at home. Not being to interact with the class, I didn't retain a damn thing. As for commuting, the campuses are 2 hours apart. That's huge chunks of time that could be spent a lot more productively than driving. Plus, I think one of the two locations isn't ABA accredited yet, and I'm very wary of going someplace without accreditation.

I think my personal statement is done, and my resume is really about as detailed as I want to get, so as soon as my boss gets around to writing a LoR, I should be good to start submitting. Yay! I may have this done by Thanksgiving yet.

I'm sure most of you (the Americans at least) have heard about what happened at Fort Hood yesterday by now. It's the only thing that's been on the news here for the last 2 days, since Killeen is really close to Austin. I don't know if I have much to say to it- what do you say to that kind of thing?- other than that's it's an awful tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families. It's nice to hear such an outpouring of support, people rushing in to give blood.

Oh, and forget this guy's religious preferences- what really scares me is that he was a psychiatrist. When a guy who's supposed to be keeping soldiers sane snaps, that is not a good sign.

I hate the reading comprehension section. Grrrr. I have never been good at those. I don't read fast enough, frankly. Plus, reading has never been my strong point when it comes to English skills. I would have gotten a 36 on my ACT if my reading section had not been so low.
I worked through the sample sections in my book at work, and the result was not so great. Partly it's my sucky abilities, but I was also distratced by other goings on at the office during my lunch hour.
I worked through a writing sample or 2 today, and am now up to the practice tests. Naturally I don't have 3 1/2 hours to kill at work (or hell, after I get home from work too. There is a reason they administer these things on Saturdays), but I do have 35 minutes at lunch, so my strategy is to work section at a time. Hopefully I can seclude myself in the file room at lunch so I won't be distracted. But the study at work strategy seems to be working so far.

I watched Philadelphia last night. You know, that may have been cutting egde for its time, but there are some things that Denzel Washington says in that movie that you could not get away with today. We've come a long way in 16 years. Long way to go, but the road to equal rights has never been a short one, has it?

If, god forbid, I have to answer an optional essay question about what piece of art inspired me to become a lawyer (one of UPenn's options, swear it), I'd probably use that movie. I wouldn't use the classic answer 'To Kill A Mockingbird' because, well, frankly, I've never read it. I took freshman English (when the book was read at my school) through an online program administered by BYU due to scheduling conflicts. It was a joke, but I got credit for it,

Stolen from...the entire [community profile] gaeta_squee fandom.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

In a very blah mood today. Oddly, all I am in the mood for is LSAT prep tests. I ♥ logic puzzles, ok? I like all these analytical reasoning questions. (This will all change when I get to the reading comprehension section, I promise you).

Let's meta shall we? I can't study all night.

Ask me either a broad creative question (i.e 'who is your cruelest character?', 'what is your most optimistic story?') or a specific question/request ('what world does ___ come from?', 'tell me about ___') and I will answer you. Or you can ask meta-questions like 'what was the inspiration for creating ____?'
