I just heard a really cool song on the radio called "United State of Pop- Blame It On the Pop" by DJ Earworm. It's a remix of all of 2009's biggest hits. You wouldn't think it would work, but it totally does.

The amount of fee waivers I'm getting via email now is insane. I got 12 yesterday, 8 so far today, and a number before then. The highest ranked school I've gotten one from is Duke.

I got my new car today! Except I can't drive it, because the dealership forgot to send me temporary plates. They're overnighting them, and should be here tomorrow. I tried to register it today, except I'm also missing something that the Secretary of State of Michigan needs to process. The people at the DMV here were a bit confused, because the Texas Secretary of State has nothing to do with vehicle registration.
The car is spiffy...obviously, since it's new. 2010 Focus. It drives well, and it's nice to have a car with good brakes again.
It's equipped with Sync. I can control my ipod through my car. It's sweet. :)

Thursday has been declared "Support Your Longhorns" day at work by the powers that be, and thus we get to wear jeans so long as we have on a burnt orange shirt. Two casual days in a row, woo!

I hate writing personal essays. It's like pulling teeth. I have one for a scholarship at Pepperdine I am working on, and it's really not coming along well. It's due next Friday. I need to think of more ways to say "challenge".

German Cry Me a River?

Yes?
Cause I could almost swear that's Timbaland beatboxing in the background.

Well damn. I'm getting application fee waivers left and right. One of the schools that offered me one is Pepperdine...to which I already applied and submitted the application fee. :/

They are saying that it may get down to 20 degrees on Thursday. They're also talking about snow again.

My retirement contributions are going up, thanks to a legislative mandate. It's a good thing I get all that back and then some, otherwise I would not be happy. That's my New Zealand money, darnit!

Ok, the reason I'm whiny? It's my birthday on Saturday, and I know I'm going to be spending it entirely alone. There's a Settlers meetup that day, but there are a couple people in that group I just can't stand, and I don't want to spend my birthday annoyed. We have monthly birthday celebrations at work with food, though I just can't shake the feeling that whoever is organizing is gonna show up with a chocolate cake. *sigh*

Hope College administration at it again:

"Boy in short shorts" is a kid that was in my Japanese class. Kudos to him.

I really have to wonder what is going to happen when Bultman retires. Whether that will put an end to the DelaTorre, Black, and Gay/Straight Alliance chutzpahs, or if the college is just going to search out the most conservative alum they can find to take his place.

So um. Happy New Year? I'm not feeling very festive. I'm not going out tonight, as I really really do not want to drive in downtown Austin tonight. Anyplace else was too expensive, so at home with Anderson and Lance Ryan Seacrest (I don't get CNN) it is. I'll save the partying for my birthday next weekend. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet, though I'm kinda thinking Main Event sounds like fun. Perhaps dinner or something as well ([personal profile] phaballa? [profile] soylahtayplease? Food, next week?)
And of course the 1999 sing a long sometime in January. Hell yeah!

So saying farewell to 2009...well, it wasn't a bad year. I took lots of weekend vacations, which was fun, got wrapped up in a new fandom, got a JOB, met lots of fun new people... Considering how much 2008 fucking sucked, I give 2009 a thumbs up.

Now as for the decade. This is the first decade that I actually remember the whole thing. I was 4 in 1990, thus too young to remember anything. Dear god, 10 years is a long time. I was still in middle school when 2000 hit. Yeesh. That feels like a lifetime ago. (Though on the other hand, in 3 months we'll be celebrating the 10 year anniversary of No Strings Attached, which is hard to believe was that long ago. So I guess it all depends on how you look at it.)

Remember 10 years ago when everyone was afraid the world was gonna end because of Y2K? Ah the memories.
Mood:: 'nostalgic' nostalgic

I received a letter in the mail today from someone trying to spread the word of Jesus. On the envelope was a Hanukah stamp. I love irony.

Here's an interesting turn of events. The University of Virginia, who was on my list originally but I didn't end up applying, has provided me with a fee waiver based on my LSAT scores. Hm.

This post is long delayed, but to my Santa for MTYG, thank you for the story! Though I have not attended Camp Sparkle, I now know what Cluedo is, and can imagine the sort of insanity that arose from those games. The story made me laugh out loud and facepalm on behalf of Justin (poor boy, he knows not what he gets into).

Unforunately, MTYG caught me in the middle of a sinus infection that was keeping me up at night and recovering from a tooth extraction, so forgive me? I really enjoyed the story, I promise. :)

Almost everyone in my office this year gave out Christmas goodies (I have a large pile of chocolates on my desk).
Myself, feeling bad that I didn't think to get anything, am now assembling "Happy New Year!" goodie cups. It's not much- just a cup with M&M's, gummi bears, and a noisemaker in it. But it's better than nothing, for alas, I do not have the money to buy 15 people larger items.
Bonus points for originality?
